Marc Solomon is a guitar player from Northern New Jersey who is currently based out of Brooklyn, NY. Although he is most known for his performing and composing in the jazz idiom, his background is deeply rooted in rock and blues, making his playing appropriate for a wide variety of settings. He is a recent graduate of the University of Miami’s Frost School of music, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was selected as the 2018 Outstanding Graduating Senior in Studio Music and Jazz.
At the University of Miami, he studied jazz guitar with the great John Hart over the course of four years. There, he also had the great fortune of studying with incredible musicians, and composers like Martin Bejerano, Shelly Berg, Gary Lindsay, Stephen Guerra, Steve Rucker and Dafnis Prieto and performing with the award winning Frost School of Music Studio Jazz Band, Funk/Fusion Ensemble and Salsa Orchestra. Both the Studio Jazz band and Salsa Orchestra received Downbeat awards while he was a member. In Miami, he performed with musicians among the likes of Arturo Sandoval, Shelly Berg, Christine Jenson, Mike Flanagan, and many others.
Aside from his focus on performing, he’s developed a love for arranging and composing in the jazz, contemporary and classical idioms and has written music for small ensemble, big band, and orchestra.
Teaching music has also been a passion of Marc’s since high school. Over the past several years, he’s taught guitar, trumpet, and music theory to students of all ages and skill levels in both private and group settings.
